Assemblyman Abdelaziz Delivers Major State Investment to LD35, Boosting Paterson Youth and Local Infrastructure

PATERSON, N.J. — New Jersey’s 35th Legislative District is set to receive a major financial boost as Assemblyman Al Abdelaziz helped secure more than $4.5 million in state funding aimed at strengthening neighborhoods, improving roads, and expanding life-changing youth programs across the district.

A significant portion of the funding — $2 million dedicated to Paterson — will support the state’s Anti-Violence Out-of-School initiative, a program designed to steer at-risk youth and young adults away from crime and toward education, mentorship, and long-term success.

In addition to youth-focused investments, the funding package includes over $2.5 million in Municipal Aid grants awarded through the New Jersey Department of Transportation. These grants will finance road and infrastructure upgrades in Elmwood Park, Garfield, Haledon, North Haledon, Paterson, and Prospect Park, ensuring safer streets and improved quality of life for residents.

Key roadway projects include $1.1 million in improvements to Kearney Street, Slater Street, and Levine Street, targeting long-needed repairs and safety enhancements.

“These investments reflect our commitment to putting public dollars back into the communities that generate them,” Abdelaziz said. “Whether it’s rebuilding roads or creating opportunities for young people to thrive, this funding is about delivering real, everyday improvements for families across LD35.”

Funded through gas-tax revenue, the Municipal Aid program returns money paid by residents at the pump directly to their local municipalities. This year, all 537 New Jersey municipalities that applied for FY2026 aid received funding, continuing the state’s focus on equitable infrastructure investment.

Beyond asphalt and concrete, the Anti-Violence Out-of-School program will serve adolescents, young adults, and adults at risk of academic or justice system involvement, offering guidance, structured activities, and support services aimed at breaking cycles of violence and disengagement.

“With the right support, our youth can build brighter futures for themselves and their communities,” Abdelaziz said. “This funding ensures Paterson’s young people are given that chance.”

The combined investments mark one of the most impactful funding packages for LD35 this year, blending infrastructure improvements with social programs designed to produce lasting community change.
